Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ron James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gabe Thurgood! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Joseph Jones and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
James scores with a leg kick.

Thurgood checks a low kick from James. Thurgood misses with the combination.
Nice jab there from James. Thurgood throws a low kick but it's checked well by James. James ducks under a wild hook from Thurgood. Thurgood keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from James. Gabe Thurgood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Thurgood moves out of range as James throws a body kick.
Thurgood pivots, looking for a leg kick but James is out of range and Thurgood settles back down. Thurgood throws an overhand right that lands on James's shoulder, as James tries to avoid the shot. James connects with an inside leg kick. Thurgood is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by James. Thurgood takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Thurgood cracks James with an open hand slap. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! James uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Thurgood.
That's one minute gone in the round. James goes for a high kick. It partially lands. James misses with a head kick.
James tries to move into range but Thurgood moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Thurgood swings for the body but James moves out of range.
James keeps the fight on the outside. Thurgood moves into range and clinches up with James. Thurgood misses with a punch on the inside.
Thurgood is trying to maintain a safe position but James gets an underhook and turns Thurgood into the cage. James displaying some good clinch control by pressing Thurgood up against the cage. James breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. James throws a chopping leg kick but Thurgood manages to avoid taking any serious damage. James waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Thurgood. James throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. James misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Thurgood. Gabe Thurgood is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. A low kick from James is predictable there and Thurgood counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
It looks like Ron James has been cut. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! James looks to throw the jab but Thurgood is out of range. Thurgood fakes high and swings low for a body shot but James manages to avoid it. James lands with a right hand.
It looks like Gabe Thurgood has been cut. James avoids a punch combination nicely.
Thurgood connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. James ducks under a wild hook from Thurgood. Thurgood thows a body shot but no joy. James moves out of range as Thurgood strikes. Thurgood defending well as James loads up on a big left hand. James lands a glancing blow to the side of Thurgood's head. James is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Thurgood takes a kick to the side of the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A nice inside leg kick there by James. That's going to slow Thurgood down. James punishes Thurgood's body with a nice straight punch. Thurgood throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Thurgood throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Thurgood moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. A nice inside leg kick there by James. That's going to slow Thurgood down. Thurgood tries to clinch there but James circles away.
Thurgood fakes high and swings low for a body shot but James manages to avoid it. James misses with a looping left. James tries for a takedown but Thurgood sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. James looks to score with a jab to the body but Thurgood is just out of range. James shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Thurgood as he avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ron James. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. James looks to land a right hand but Thurgood moved out of range. Thurgood on the wrong end of a nice jab. Thurgood blocks a low kick nicely. Thurgood throws out a loose jab but James uses good head movement to avoid it. A jab from Thurgood misses. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Thurgood moves in looking to clinch but James pushes him off. Thurgood misses with a hook. James shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. James fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Thurgood is rocked! James postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Thurgood in real trouble here! The ref calls for Thurgood to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ron James! After the fight, Ron James was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
