Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lee Kawasaki! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Tom Daniels! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Daniels throws a shot to the body.
Daniels scores with the left hand. Kawasaki knows he should have avoided that one. Kawasaki closes this distance looking for a takedown but Daniels circles away. Lee Kawasaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kawasaki shoots in for a double leg but Daniels sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Daniels lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Daniels fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Kawasaki on the side of the head. Daniels fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Daniels works Kawasaki's body with a nice hook. Kawasaki with a poor takedown and Daniels makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lee Kawasaki. That's going to take a lot out of him. Daniels jabs at Kawasaki's body. Kawasaki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Daniels tries to avoid it but Kawasaki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Daniels to the ground. Daniels escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Kawasaki is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Daniels paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Kawasaki shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Kawasaki not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kawasaki is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Daniels is just riding it out for now. Kawasaki eventually gives up the hold. Daniels tries to get to full guard but Kawasaki has control of the leg. Daniels has his hands clasped together around Kawasaki's back. He's all about the action. Kawasaki is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Daniels has managed to free his arm - good work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kawasaki seems to be looking for submissions.
Daniels wants to get back to full guard. Daniels really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kawasaki. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Kawasaki trying to control from half guard but Daniels is working away. Kawasaki has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Daniels defend it? Kawasaki steps over the head and cranks it - Daniels is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Kawasaki!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Lee Kawasaki! Our winner, Lee Kawasaki, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
