Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Drago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Salt Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ivan Drago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Salt Williams!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Drago gets a clinch.
Drago blocks the elbow strike.
Williams tries to land knees in the clinch but Drago avoids the damage to the body.
Drago wants to get back to striking at distance but Williams won't allow it.
Williams throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Drago blocks it with crossed arms.
Drago tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Williams smiles and moves away.

Williams darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Drago kicks Williams off and gets back to his feet.

Drago drives through and clinches with Williams against the cage.
Williams misses with a knee strike.
Drago on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Drago wants a takedown but no success here.
Williams misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Drago.

Drago has a closed guard, preventing Williams from standing up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Drago lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Williams!

Drago fails with the takedown

and Williams counters by clinching up.
Williams tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Drago just stands there and leans against the cage.
Williams lands an elbow inside that Drago shrugs off.
Drago blocks an elbow strike from Williams.
Drago stops a takedown attempt from Williams.
Williams lands a damaging elbow.
Williams throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Williams using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Drago has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Drago drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Williams gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Drago can't break the clinch.
Williams tries to land knees in the clinch but Drago avoids the damage to the body.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Williams sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Drago tries to clinch but Williams moves out of range.

Drago drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Williams wants to stand and escape but Drago is having none of it.
Drago has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Drago controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Drago pushes down on Williams's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Well, if Drago is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Drago winds up and cracks Williams with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Williams wants to get back to his feet.

Drago is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Williams is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Drago really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Williams is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Drago stands up and beckons Williams to his feet.

Ivan Drago dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Williams gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Williams stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Williams has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Drago is working away from the top position though.

Williams fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Williams is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Ivan Drago has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Salt Williams.
A left hand lands to the body for Williams.
Williams comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.


It looks like Ivan Drago has been cut.
Williams is trying to maintain a safe position but Drago gets an underhook and turns Williams into the cage.

Drago closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Drago is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Williams will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Drago will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Williams misses with a takedown

and Drago counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Drago turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Drago manages to end up in side control.

Salt Williams has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Drago working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Ivan Drago showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Drago, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
