PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kim Karlsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Wiggum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karlsen comes into the arena with Home by BZ's blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kim Karlsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Nick Wiggum!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Donald Grub and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karlsen rushes Wiggum and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Karlsen is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Karlsen is trying to maintain a safe position but Wiggum gets an underhook and turns Karlsen into the cage.

Karlsen passes Wiggum's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Karlsen is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Wiggum reverses the position - he's now on top in Karlsen's guard.

Karlsen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wiggum gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Wiggum distracts Karlsen with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Karlsen has his foot on Wiggum's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wiggum works his way back into a safe position though.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Karlsen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Wiggum sprawls well initially but Karlsen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Karlsen lands a nice short elbow.
Karlsen is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Karlsen is nestled in close to Wiggum, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Karlsen is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Wiggum is defending well though. Karlsen let's go of the attempt for now.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Karlsen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wiggum can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Wiggum has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Karlsen is proving hard to escape from.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wiggum can do anything to dispel that myth.
Wiggum is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kim Karlsen.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Karlsen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
