Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Minoshi Kawajari! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryobun Akagi! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kawajari keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Akagi. Akagi throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kawajari. Akagi scores with a three punch combo!
Akagi bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Akagi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kawajari swivels and escapes. Kawajari fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Akagi sprawls well initially but Kawajari persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Kawajari wants to work for an arm triangle but Akagi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Akagi works his way to full guard. Good work. Akagi is trying to keep Kawajari in close.
Kawajari stands and throws Akagi's legs to the side, diving into side control. Akagi tries to get back to half guard but can't. Akagi is trying to control Kawajari's posture but Kawajari avoids it. Akagi sneaks back into half guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Akagi trying to control but Kawajari postures up.
Kawajari wants to pass the guard but Akagi is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kawajari decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Kawajari scores with a hook to the body. Akagi takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Minoshi Kawajari seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Akagi misses with a wild body shot. Kawajari connects with a crisp jab. Akagi throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Good exchange - Kawajari coming out on top. Kawajari is looking to clinch but Akagi is avoiding it.
Kawajari scores with a jab to the body. Kawajari digs a good body shot into Akagi's ribs. Akagi throws a hook but Kawajari avoids it easily. Akagi looks for a takedown but Kawajari sprawls well. Kawajari smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Kawajari jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Kawajari looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Kawajari is looking for a kimura but Akagi is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kawajari to get the leverage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kawajari tries to stand but can't do so whilst Akagi controls his leg. Kawajari is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Akagi is trying to stand up here but Kawajari is controlling him well. Kawajari is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Kawajari seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Kawajari is breathing heavily. Akagi regains full guard. Nicely done. Akagi wants to sweep here but Kawajari controlling him for the moment. Akagi is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Akagi tries for a takedown but Kawajari circles away easily and Kawajari counters by moving into the clinch. Minoshi Kawajari has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryobun Akagi.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kawajari trying to stall but Akagi improves his position.
Kawajari breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kawajari with a body punch. A glancing blow. Kawajari tries to clinch up. Kawajari shoots in for a takedown but Akagi shows good takedown defense. Akagi fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Akagi stuffs the takedown. Kawajari lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Akagi showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Kawajari.
Akagi stuffs the takedown. Akagi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kawajari as he avoids it easily. Kawajari connects with a single shot there. Kawajari has a takedown stuffed. A solid body kick from Akagi. Akagi connects with a high kick. Akagi throws a combination that misses and Kawajari counters with a one-two to the body. Kawajari sizes up Akagi with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Akagi on the wrong end of a nice hook. Nice jab there from Kawajari. Kawajari digs a good hook to Akagi's body.
Akagi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Akagi throws a wild body kick that Kawajari sees coming a mile off. Kawajari lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Kawajari closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Akagi to the mat! Akagi manages to get full guard. Akagi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kawajari is one step ahead there. Kawajari trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Akagi looking for a guillotine here but Kawajari defends easily.
Akagi looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Kawajari is defending well. Akagi quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Kawajari has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Akagi celebrates on the ropes, with the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ryobun Akagi! Ryobun Akagi is the new bantamweight champion!
