PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Isaki Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jenji Ueda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ueda is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Requiem for a Dream. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Isaki Gomi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Jenji Ueda!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomi throws a right hand that Ueda ducks under and follows up with a left that Ueda also avoids with ease.
No joy there for Gomi, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gomi works over Ueda's head and body with a nice combination.
Gomi thuds a left hand into Ueda's body.
Ueda misses the shot to the body.
Ueda avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ueda checks a low kick from Gomi.
Gomi throws a sloppy head kick and Ueda moves out of range easily.
Ueda tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gomi swivels and escapes.

Oh Gomi is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ueda is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Ueda is trying to control the action in half guard but Gomi is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Ueda lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Ueda seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Ueda stalling away here and it's allowed Gomi to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Gomi will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Ueda has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ueda seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gomi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ueda lands a big elbow - Gomi is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Ueda!
