PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rob Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christian Beik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rob Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Christian Beik !
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steel shoots in for a takedown but Beik shows good takedown defense.

Steel closes the distance and clinches.

Beik gets control of Steel's arms and successfully pulls guard. Beik will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Steel controlling from the top position.
Steel wants to stand but Beik is controlling his posture from full guard.
Steel wants to control from the top but Beik keeps moving.

Steel got a little sloppy there for a moment and Beik has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Steel has managed to get both his arms back between Beik 's legs - danger averted.
Steel is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rob Steel has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Steel shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Beik is trying to defend but Steel finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Steel gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Steel closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Steel perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Steel's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Steel is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Beik doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Steel.
Beik wants to control but Steel is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Steel gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Steel creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Beik has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Steel regains guard immediately.

Beik avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Beik is looking to stand up but Steel won't let him.
Steel is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Steel pushes Beik off and gets back to his feet.
Beik connects with a leg kick. Steel looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Beik misses with a takedown attempt - Steel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Steel shoots in for a double leg but Beik sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Steel tries to clinch but Beik is having none of it.
Beik slaps away a takedown attempt from Steel, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rob Steel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nice takedown defense from Steel. No joy for Beik on that attempt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Beik looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Steel is fending him off so far but Beik persists. Nope, Steel circles away and we're back to standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rob Steel dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Beik misses with a takedown

and Steel counters with a nice double leg into side control. Beik won't be happy with that.
Rob Steel overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Beik is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Steel off and has taken his back!
Steel turns into Beik and is now in his guard.
Beik wants to sweep but no luck.
Beik keeping full guard, as Steel tries to pass.
Steel pushing down on Beik 's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Steel seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Beik trying to control but Steel postures up.
Beik tries to get to full guard but Steel has control of the leg.
Beik is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Steel works his way into full mount!
Steel looking to finish Beik with some ground and pound. This is bad for Beik !


Beik is rocked!
Steel controlling from mount.
Beik is still in real trouble! Can Steel finish him?
Steel connects with a bit shot that sees Beik covering up! More strikes from Steel and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Steel is our winner by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rob Steel!
