With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gareth Edwards!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edwards scores with a jab to the head.
No luck for Diaz with that takedown attempt.

Diaz scores with a takedown into Edwards's guard.
Edwards is trying to keep Diaz in close.
Diaz is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Edwards wants to stand and escape but Diaz is having none of it.
Edwards can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Diaz controls the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Edwards is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Romo Diaz just wasn't active enough.
Edwards throws a chopping leg kick but Diaz manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Diaz misses with a takedown
and Edwards counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Diaz gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Edwards counters with a nice body kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Romo Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Edwards throws a head kick but Diaz moves out of range.
Diaz blocks a head kick by Edwards.
The fighters circle momentarily. Diaz darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Edwards leaves Diaz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Edwards throws a series of punches but Diaz avoids them all with ease.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Diaz.
Diaz has his takedown stuffed
and Edwards counters with a nice leg kick.
Diaz tries for a takedown but Edwards circles away easily
and Edwards cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Diaz dodges the punch combination from Edwards.

Diaz shoots in and bounces Edwards off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Edwards preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Edwards working for a triangle but Diaz defends it easily.
Diaz works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Edwards on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Edwards tries to kick Diaz off but Diaz keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Diaz is looking to take a break and control but Edwards is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Diaz is taking a breather. Edwards says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Diaz lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Diaz passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Edwards!
Diaz cracks Edwards with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Romo Diaz!
After winning the bout, Romo Diaz thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
