PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Paolo Cezer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Rocha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paolo Cezer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Rocha!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Seu Braga and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rocha throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Cezer lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Rocha throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rocha fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rocha looks to land a combination but Cezer avoids it well.
Cezer takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Cezer tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rocha swivels and escapes.
A combination from Rocha does no damage.
Rocha throws a series of punches but Cezer moves out of range.
Rocha falls off balance throwing a combination

and Cezer counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cezer slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Rocha is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cezer is controlling him.

Diego Rocha seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cezer fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rocha to the ground. Cezer is now in Rocha's guard.
Cezer is pushing down on Rocha's leg trying to pass to half guard. Rocha is fighting to maintain full guard but Cezer has managed to sneak the leg through.
Well, if Cezer is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Rocha is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Cezer has taken his back.

Cezer really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Rocha.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Paolo Cezer has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Rocha swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paolo Cezer dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Rocha defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cezer.
Rocha throws a series of punches but Cezer avoids them all with ease.

Cezer has closed the distance and engaged Rocha in a clinch.
Cezer keeps control of Rocha as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Rocha wants to break free but Cezer has control.

Cezer jumps into guard, dragging Rocha to the mat.
Cezer manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Rocha really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Paolo Cezer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rocha wants to control but Cezer is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rocha has given up his back. Will we see Cezer going for some submissions?

Cezer has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Rocha controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Paolo Cezer wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Rocha throws a nice looking combination but Cezer bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Cezer shoots in looking for a takedown. Rocha tries to sprawl out of it but Cezer keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rocha manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rocha throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Cezer could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Rocha lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cezer circles away quickly and effectively.

Cezer closes the distance and clinches up with Rocha, looking for a takedown. Cezer pushes Rocha against the cage but Rocha circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Rocha moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paolo Cezer dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Cezer slips a jab and a cross from Rocha.
Cezer will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Cezer fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rocha avoids it really well and circles away.
Diego Rocha is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Cezer blocks a head kick by Rocha.

Cezer shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Cezer prevents Rocha from getting the reversal.
Rocha takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cezer stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Rocha slaps away a takedown attempt from Cezer, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rocha tries to bum rush Cezer with a series of wild strikes but Cezer uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Cezer shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Rocha napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Cezer is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Rocha will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Cezer stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rocha throws a right and a left that Cezer avoids nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cezer.

Cezer shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Rocha wants to control but Cezer is having none of it.
Cezer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paolo Cezer showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cezer, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
