Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ricardo Aguiar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bertus Eppinga! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Nard Betker.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Eppinga doesn't succeed with the takedown and Aguiar counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Aguiar missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Eppinga throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Aguiar gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Aguiar circles away from the clinch attempt.
Aguiar avoids the head kick by Eppinga.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Eppinga. Eppinga gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Aguiar counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Eppinga! Ricardo Aguiar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bertus Eppinga. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Aguiar dominating with strikes here. Eppinga tries to get back to half guard but can't. Aguiar breaks from Eppinga's wrist control and lands an elbow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aguiar unloading with bombs! Eppinga tries to reverse the position but Aguiar maintains control. Aguiar in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Aguiar is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Eppinga can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Eppinga is rocked! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Aguiar cracks Eppinga with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ricardo Aguiar! After winning the bout, Ricardo Aguiar thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
