The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shirou Masuda.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santana darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Santana is looking to take a break and control but Akaba is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Santana takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Santana wants to control but Akaba is keeping him busy.
Santana passes to full mount!

Santana stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Santana avoids a punch combination nicely.

Santana clinches up with Akaba and pushes him back against the cage.
Akaba is trying to drag Santana to the mat but Santana just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Akaba tries to work over Santana's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Santana is trying to break the clinch but Akaba is controlling him.

Santana escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Akaba has a takedown stuffed.
Akaba is breathing heavily.
Santana swinging wildly here.

Akaba throws a front kick aimed at Santana's knee but Santana avoids it well.
Santana tries to clinch there but Akaba circles away.
Santana fails with a takedown attempt.
Akaba displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Santana.

Santana shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Akaba is trying to defend but Santana finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Akaba is looking to control Santana's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Akaba avoid being mounted?

Santana seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Let's hope that Santana has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Hayato Akaba.
Akaba avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Santana closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Santana is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Akaba is trying to escape and Santana transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Akaba is forced to tap! Nice work there by Santana! Very nice indeed!
