The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Welsh moves into the clinch. Buchanan managing to block the knees to the body from Welsh.
Welsh jumps into guard, dragging Buchanan to the mat.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Welsh controls Buchanan momentarily but Buchanan frees himself. Buchanan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Welsh keeping moving, preventing Buchanan from controlling successfully. Buchanan postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Welsh is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Buchanan, into his guard. Welsh is looking to stand up but Buchanan won't let him. Buchanan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Welsh doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Buchanan is tightening it up a little... Welsh has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Welsh reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Welsh taps out! Nice BJJ there by Buchanan!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Paul Buchanan! An out of breath Paul Buchanan thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
