PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Calderon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Markus Serdal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Jose Calderon has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Calderon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Markus Serdal!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Seu Braga and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Serdal misses the shot to the body.
Calderon scores with a shot to the body.
Calderon smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Serdal manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Calderon on his heels. He'll look to pass Calderon's guard now, I'm sure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Calderon is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Serdal is controlling him.
Serdal slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Serdal has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Serdal thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Serdal drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Serdal jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Calderon wants to stand but Serdal is controlling the position.
Serdal stands and throws Calderon's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Calderon is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Serdal has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Serdal throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Calderon enables Serdal to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Calderon manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Serdal lands a few punches from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Calderon swinging wildly here.
Calderon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Serdal misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Jose Calderon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Serdal is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Calderon sees it coming and defends easily.

Serdal has gone for a leg lock! Calderon slips out almost immediately though and dives into Serdal's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Serdal accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Serdal is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Calderon is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Calderon has escaped and now he's on top!
Serdal is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Markus Serdal showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Calderon lands a jab-cross combination.
Serdal takes a swing at Calderon's ribcage but misses.
Calderon tries to bum rush Serdal with a series of wild strikes but Serdal uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Calderon shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Serdal sprawls well. Serdal wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Calderon gets slowly back to his feet.

Jose Calderon is winning the standup battle so far.
Calderon feints a jab promting Serdal to slip. Calderon then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Serdal slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Serdal with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Calderon to score with a decent uppercut.
Calderon tries to clinch but Serdal is having none of it.
Calderon throws a nice looking combination but Serdal bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Calderon shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
It looks like Calderon is going to stand back up.
Calderon wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Serdal uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Calderon throws an elbow that misses. Serdal uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Calderon's guard. Nice move by Serdal!

Serdal advances position into side control!

Serdal has an Americana. Calderon didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Serdal is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Serdal hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
