PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Burleigh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Forrest Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Burleigh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Forrest Griffin!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Burleigh avoids it really well and circles away.
Burleigh uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Griffin misses with a takedown attempt - Burleigh sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Burleigh connects with a right hand. Griffin shakes it off.

Burleigh shoots in and bounces Griffin off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Burleigh with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Griffin controls Burleigh momentarily but Burleigh frees himself.
Burleigh keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Griffin's head.
Griffin trying to keep a closed guard but Burleigh is proving a slippery customer.

Burleigh got a little sloppy there for a moment and Griffin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Burleigh has managed to get both his arms back between Griffin's legs - danger averted.
Griffin pulls Burleigh in to control the position.
Burleigh knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Griffin on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Burleigh working some strikes from top position.
Griffin avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Burleigh landing with the ground and pound.
Burleigh working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Burleigh trying to control the position from guard on top but Griffin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Griffin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Burleigh stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Griffin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Burleigh might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Griffin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Griffin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Burleigh gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Burleigh lands a couple of decent looking shots.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Griffin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Burleigh trying to control the position from guard on top but Griffin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burleigh throwing strikes but missing.
Griffin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Burleigh working some strikes from top position.
Burleigh landing with the ground and pound.
Griffin looks gassed!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Burleigh prevents Griffin from getting back to his feet.
Griffin trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Burleigh connects with a couple of short punches.
Burleigh postures up and lands a big shot to Griffin's brow.
Burleigh lands a couple of elbows.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burleigh working some strikes from top position.
Burleigh with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Griffin has momentary wrist control but Burleigh slips an elbow through the middle.
Burleigh is in close to Griffin's body, working some short punches and elbows.


Griffin is rocked!
Burleigh lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Griffin is still in real trouble! Can Burleigh finish him?
Burleigh makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Burleigh scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Burleigh loads up on a big left hand. Griffin felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Burleigh looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Griffin can't hide his disappointment, as Burleigh celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Phil Burleigh!
