Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Son! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vincenzo Calliente! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Russell Pearce and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Calliente getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Calliente moves into range and clinches up with Son. Son has Calliente pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Calliente manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Calliente gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
It looks like Joe Son has been cut. Calliente is trying to trip Son. He has hold of a leg but Son is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Calliente persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Calliente controlling from the top position. Son working for a triangle but Calliente defends it easily.
Son is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Calliente wants to pass the guard but Son is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Calliente landing with the ground and pound. Calliente preventing the sweep. Son is breathing heavily. Calliente looking to pass the guard. Calliente trying to control the position from guard on top but Son is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Son keeping full guard, as Calliente tries to pass. Calliente gets to his feet. Son looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Son looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Son will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Son. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Calliente will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Nice takedown defense from Son. No joy for Calliente on that attempt. Calliente changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Son tries to avoid it but Calliente manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Son to the ground. Son escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Son tries for a takedown but Calliente circles away easily and Calliente counters with a nice kick to the body. Calliente fails in his attempt to clinch. Calliente doesn't succeed with the takedown and Son counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Calliente's guard now. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Calliente can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Son is pushing down on Calliente's leg trying to pass to half guard. Calliente is fighting to maintain full guard but Son has managed to sneak the leg through. Son is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Calliente is just riding it out for now. Son eventually gives up the hold. Son has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Calliente defend it? Son steps over the head and cranks it - Calliente is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Son!
