Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Miguel Ribeiro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wesley Cunha! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown by Ribeiro or perhaps it was just good defense by Cunha which made him look bad. Ribeiro tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Cunha manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Cunha shoots in looking for a takedown but Ribeiro manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cunha's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Ribeiro looks to land a combination. Cunha sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Cunha scores with a takedown into Ribeiro's guard. Cunha controlling from the top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cunha decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ribeiro, up you get! Ribeiro shoots for a takedown but Cunha saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Ribeiro throws a big shot that misses. Ribeiro throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Cunha throws a series of punches but Ribeiro moves out of range. Ribeiro fails with a takedown attempt from distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miguel Ribeiro. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cunha lands with a cross. Ribeiro has a takedown stuffed. Ribeiro throws a body kick despite being completely out of range and Cunha counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Cunha. Ribeiro is trying to pull guard but Cunha has him pressed against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cunha taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Ribeiro is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Ribeiro is breathing heavily. Cunha breaks the clinch.
Cunha has a takedown stuffed. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cunha throws a right and a left that Ribeiro avoids nicely. Cunha closes the distance and clinches. Cunha escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cunha fails with a takedown attempt. Ribeiro stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ribeiro wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ribeiro throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Ribeiro fails with the takedown. Horrible takedown by Cunha or perhaps it was just good defense by Ribeiro which made him look bad. A head kick misses from Cunha. Ribeiro throws a head kick but Cunha moves out of range.

Ribeiro tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Ribeiro is looking to clinch. Ribeiro is looking to clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cunha displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ribeiro. Cunha has Ribeiro up against the cage in a clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Cunha landing knees to the body.

Cunha decides to pull guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ribeiro advances position into side control! Cunha taking punishment in the form of punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cunha defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ribeiro. Miguel Ribeiro is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Ribeiro leaves Cunha with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Miguel Ribeiro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wesley Cunha. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cunha. Cunha is breathing heavily. Cunha pushes Ribeiro up against the cage in a clinch. Cunha tries to pull guard but Ribeiro won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cunha lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Ribeiro. Ribeiro pulls Cunha into guard.
Cunha pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ribeiro is keeping the position for now. Ribeiro controls Cunha momentarily but Cunha frees himself. Cunha is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Ribeiro looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cunha is one step ahead there. Ribeiro manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cunha manages to get himself to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ribeiro wants to control from the top but Cunha keeps moving. Cunha doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Ribeiro trying to control the position from guard on top but Cunha is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Cunha is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ribeiro defends well. Cunha really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ribeiro. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Ribeiro wants to control from the top but Cunha keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cunha wants to sweep but no luck. Cunha has momentary wrist control but Ribeiro slips an elbow through the middle. Ribeiro is looking to work some ground and pound but Cunha has wrist control. Cunha has an active guard here but Ribeiro has managed to pass into half guard.
Ribeiro in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Cunha tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Ribeiro!
