0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mort Shula! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Dean Styles and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shula misses with a double jab.
Nice sprawl there from Chapin as Shula shoots in. Shula shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Chapin pinned against the cage. Chapin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Shula tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Chapin swivels and escapes. Bernard Chapin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mort Shula. Shula tries a head kick but it misses.

Chapin tries to clinch up but Shula circles away and keeps his distance. Shula throws a series of punches but Chapin moves out of range. Chapin is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Chapin tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shula swats him away and circles back towards the center. Chapin is looking to clinch but Shula is avoiding it.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Chapin scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Chapin avoids the head kick by Shula.
Chapin shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Shula is trying to defend but Chapin finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Chapin tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Chapin throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Chapin is looking to stall here but Shula recovers full guard. Chapin tries to free his leg and advance position but Shula is retaining full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chapin with a flurry of punches that miss. Shula is looking to stand up but Chapin isn't so interested in that idea. Chapin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shula swivels though and keeps the full guard. Shula utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shula preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Chapin missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Chapin trying to control but Shula is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Chapin decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Shula, up you get! Shula circles away from the clinch attempt.
Shula throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Chapin misses with a body shot.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Shula. Shula darts in and clinches Chapin up against the cage. Chapin has had enough of the clinch but Shula keeps him there for the moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shula fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Shula leaves Chapin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Chapin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Chapin throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Shula works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Chapin moves into full mount! Shula won't be happy about that! Chapin sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Chapin looking to finish with strikes here!
Chapin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Chapin throwing strikes but Shula recovers to half guard. A much better position. Shula keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Shula is trying to stand up here but Chapin is controlling him well. Chapin lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Chapin stops Shula from getting back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chapin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shula keeps working. Chapin not landing any meaningful shots this time. Bernard Chapin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Chapin wants to pass to mount but Shula is defending the position. Chapin decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Shula misses with a few strikes there.
Chapin tries to clinch up but Shula circles away and keeps his distance. Shula showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Chapin.

Chapin doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Chapin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Shula swivels and escapes. Shula is trying to get back to his feet. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Chapin is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Shula looks calm but he's in trouble here. Chapin gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Shula is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Chapin lets go of the hold and Shula can pop his arm back in it's socket.
