The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot by Sobral.
Serra swings for the body but Sobral moves out of range.
Sobral looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Sobral is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Serra slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Sobral sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Serra's guard.
Serra manages to get to full guard.
Sobral stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Serra swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Serra is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Sobral frees his head nicely. Oh but Serra has switched to an armbar! Sobral is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Matts Serra!
Our winner, Matts Serra, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
