PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lurppa Korva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Feeliks Pakarinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Feeliks Pakarinen!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pakarinen tries to clinch up but Korva circles away and keeps his distance.
Pakarinen wants to clinch.

Korva closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Korva lands in his opponent's guard.

Pakarinen looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Korva has picked Pakarinen up and slammed him! Pakarinen can't keep hold of the triangle and Korva manages to pass to side control!
Pakarinen avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Korva.
Pakarinen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Korva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pakarinen is not content to let Korva control the position.

Pakarinen bucks up and tries to throw Korva off but instead Korva has got his back!

Korva working for a choke but Pakarinen is defending well.
Korva lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Pakarinen hold on?!

Pakarinen trying to control the action but Korva just sinks the hooks in.

Pakarinen looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.

Korva shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Pakarinen has an active guard here but Korva has managed to pass into half guard.

Korva is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Pakarinen defends it well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pakarinen is looking for a sweep. Korva is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Korva is tying to control. Pakarinen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Korva is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pakarinen is refusing to be controlled, as Korva sits in half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pakarinen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Korva.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Pakarinen tries to close the distance and clinch but Korva swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Korva fails to land the takedown.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pakarinen gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Korva counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Pakarinen!
Korva won't let Pakarinen get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Pakarinen is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Korva prevents Pakarinen from getting the reversal.

Pakarinen is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Korva gets his way!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Pakarinen misses with a takedown attempt

and Korva counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Korva.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Korva accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Korva throws a strike but Pakarinen rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Pakarinen slips nicely into half guard.
Korva is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Pakarinen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Pakarinen's back!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Pakarinen breaks Korva's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Korva lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pakarinen!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Pakarinen can't escape the position.

Korva working for a submission but Pakarinen is keeping him at bay.
Lurppa Korva overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Pakarinen defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Korva.

Korva breaks from Pakarinen's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pakarinen can't escape the position.
Pakarinen wants to hold on but Korva pushes him away.
Pakarinen tries to control Korva's body but Korva pushes him off. Pakarinen squirms to his side and now Korva has his back!
Feeliks Pakarinen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Korva is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Pakarinen has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Pakarinen tries to break free.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lurppa Korva showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Korva, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
