PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kimbo Assis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Assis's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Falling Slowly. Austin has chosen Motorhead-Killed by death as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Steve Austin!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Assis shoots for a double leg takedown but Austin sprawls well. He's pushed Assis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Austin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Assis.
Assis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Austin pinned against the cage. Austin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kimbo Assis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Assis.
Assis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Austin circles away.
Austin lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Assis. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Assis looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Assis might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.

Austin rushes Assis and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Austin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Austin can't break the clinch.

Assis manages to pull guard.
Assis is trying to control the position but Austin postures up.
Austin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Assis is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Assis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Austin defends well.
Austin wants to get up but he can't break Assis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Assis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Austin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Austin wants to get up but he can't break Assis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Austin decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Assis, up you get!

Nice straight punches there by Austin. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Austin.
Assis has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Austin finds it's way round the side to connect with Assis's head.
Austin throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Assis stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

The fighters circle momentarily. Austin darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Assis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Austin's waist but Austin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Assis off to one side.
