PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between David Drexter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Momoshiro Kitsune (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Drexter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Momoshiro Kitsune!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shirou Masuda and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kitsune gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kitsune looking to control.

Kitsune is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Drexter is aware though and is defending well.
Drexter slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Kitsune throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Kitsune keeping full guard, as Drexter tries to pass.
Drexter wants to control from the top but Kitsune keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kitsune looking to hit a scissor sweep but Drexter is one step ahead there.
Drexter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kitsune is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kitsune looking for a sweep. Not yet Kitsune, not yet.
Drexter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

David Drexter has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Horrible takedown by Kitsune or perhaps it was just good defense by Drexter which made him look bad.
Drexter misses with a straight right.
Kitsune throws a right hand that Drexter ducks under and follows up with a left that Drexter also avoids with ease.
Drexter getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Drexter fails with an attempt to clinch.
Drexter is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kitsune.

Drexter gets a takedown into half guard.
Kitsune makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kitsune.
Drexter being controlled here momentarily.

Kitsune has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Drexter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kitsune pulls Drexter in close to his closed guard and prevents Drexter from doing any damage or advancing position.
Drexter controlling from the top position.
Drexter trying to control but Kitsune is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Drexter looking to sit in guard and control but Kitsune gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Kitsune is stalling in the full guard.
Drexter wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Kitsune manages to pass to side control.
Drexter wants to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kitsune takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Kitsune wants to take a breather but Drexter is having none of it.
Drexter tries to roll over but Kitsune keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Momoshiro Kitsune will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Kitsune thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Kitsune wants to control from the top but Drexter keeps moving.
Drexter wants to get back to his feet but Kitsune is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Drexter could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kitsune makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Kitsune throwing strikes from guard but Drexter blocks nicely.
Kitsune advances position into side control!
Kitsune works to advance to full mount. Drexter defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kitsune working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Kitsune breaks from Drexter's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Kitsune is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Drexter has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Kitsune working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Drexter is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Kitsune has taken his back!
Drexter trying to control the hands but Kitsune breaks the grip.
Drexter looking very determined here, making life difficult for Kitsune.
Kitsune throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Drexter is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Kitsune gets his way!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kitsune is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Drexter knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Drexter for a finish.

Drexter is trying to stand back up.

Kitsune is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Drexter is tapping out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Momoshiro Kitsune!
After winning the bout, Momoshiro Kitsune thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
