Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alan Dzagoev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jouston Alexander! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alexander bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Alexander moves into full mount! Dzagoev avoids a series of strikes thrown by Alexander.
Alexander is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Dzagoev is surviving well by controlling Alexander's body position as best he can. Alexander wants to take Dzagoev's back but he can't do it this time. Dzagoev can't escape the position.
Alexander throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alexander moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Dzagoev has worked his arm free - good work by Dzagoev!

Dzagoev fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Dzagoev tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Jouston Alexander seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Alexander closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dzagoev circles away. Dzagoev throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Dzagoev stuffs the takedown attempt from Alexander. Alexander gets slowly back to his feet. Alan Dzagoev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jouston Alexander. Alexander looks for a takedown but Dzagoev sprawls well. Alexander closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Dzagoev stops Alexander from passing to mount. Alexander tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Alexander thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Alexander throws a strike aimed at the side of Dzagoev's head but Dzagoev avoids it well. That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Alexander working away. Dzagoev tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alexander wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Alexander is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Dzagoev has escaped the position, nice work there.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. A cross from Dzagoev lands. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Dzagoev sizes up Alexander with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Alexander fails to land the takedown. Dzagoev misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Alexander shoots in for a takedown but Dzagoev shows good takedown defense. Dzagoev is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Alexander. Alexander checks the leg kick nicely there.
Alexander shoots in and bounces Dzagoev off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Alexander trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Alan Dzagoev will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Dzagoev stuffs the takedown. Alexander shoots in and drives through. Dzagoev sprawls well. Alexander shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dzagoev's guard. Alexander trying to control the position from guard on top but Dzagoev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Alexander passes easily into side control. Nice work. Alexander is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dzagoev is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Dzagoev gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Alexander tries to pass to full mount but Dzagoev defends it. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Alexander trying to control from half guard but Dzagoev is working away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dzagoev wants to improve his position but Alexander is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dzagoev blocking the ground and pound attempt from Alexander. Dzagoev wants to control but Alexander is keeping busy.
Alexander not landing any meaningful shots this time. Alexander prevents Dzagoev from standing back up.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Dzagoev fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Alexander on the side of the head. Dzagoev stuffs the takedown attempt from Alexander. Alexander gets slowly back to his feet. He's pushed Alexander's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Alexander shoots in but no luck this time. Alexander fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Alexander shoots in looking for a takedown. Dzagoev tries to sprawl out of it but Alexander keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dzagoev manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Dzagoev scores with a shot to the body.
Alexander takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Alexander closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Dzagoev is refusing to be controlled, as Alexander sits in half guard. Alexander is working for a kimura but Dzagoev is defending it quite comfortably.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alexander is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Dzagoev really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Alexander with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
A nice elbow there by Alexander. Alexander jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Dzagoev is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Dzagoev and Alexander has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alexander tries to move to full mount but Dzagoev actually manages to regain half guard. Alexander trying to control the action but Dzagoev is working from the bottom. Alexander has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. A big strike lands for Alexander! That's really hurt Dzagoev and he's turned his back - Alexander keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Alexander Jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
