PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jesse James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bubby Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Klaas & Bodybangers - Freak kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jesse James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Bubby Brown!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Brown dodges the punch combination from James.

James gets a double leg takedown into Brown's guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
James prevents Brown from getting back to his feet.
Brown is adopting a defensive guard.
James postures up.
James throwing strikes from guard but Brown blocks nicely.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Brown is looking for a triangle but James pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brown looking for a sweep. Not yet Brown, not yet.
Brown trying to control the position.

Brown pushes James off and gets back to his feet.

James shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Brown is working to get back to half guard.
Brown tries to hold on but James postures up.
Brown sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Brown can do anything to dispel that myth.
Brown wants to control but James is keeping busy.
James wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brown keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
James missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Brown wants to control but James is keeping busy.
Brown flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Brown gets full guard.
James won't allow Brown to get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
James is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Brown looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
James stands up over Brown, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Brown utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

James trying to control but Brown is working from the bottom.
James trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
James is looking to work some ground and pound but Brown has wrist control.
James loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Brown wants to get back to his feet but James is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
James will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Brown utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brown is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
James throws an elbow that misses. Brown uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in James's guard. Nice move by Brown!
James wants to sweep here but Brown controlling him for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

James is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Brown is aware though and is defending well.
Brown is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brown lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Brown slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James is striking from the bottom but Brown uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Brown has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jesse James will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Brown shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has James pinned against the cage. James gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

James tries to keep at a distance but Brown has taken the fight into the clinch.
Brown stalls.

Brown breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

James shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. James showed some decent athleticism there.
James is thwarting Brown's attempts to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters are battling for position here. Brown manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Brown is pulling down on James's head. It's preventing any offense from James, at least for the moment.
James postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Brown is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst James is controlling him.
James postures up in Brown's guard and throws a big left but Brown blocks it.
Brown wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and James manages to pass to side control.
Brown manages to get to full guard.

James in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
James throws an elbow that misses. Brown uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in James's guard. Nice move by Brown!

Brown slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Brown throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as James works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
James looking for a sweep. Not yet James, not yet.
Brown is working James over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Brown decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on James, up you get!

Brown closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. James did well to prevent Brown getting side control.
James has hold of Brown's hands but Brown slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
James is trying to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Brown is nestled in close to James, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Brown not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Brown should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Brown is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
James is trying to get back to full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Brown stops James from getting back to his feet.
James is trying to control but Brown manages to pass to mount!
Brown wants to control the pace but James is squirming around nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Brown lands a heavy elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bubby Brown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Brown closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brown lands in his opponent's guard.

Brown decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Brown tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but James paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Brown is looking to clinch but James is avoiding it.

Brown gets a double leg takedown into James's guard.
Brown slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Brown lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear James down.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Brown is looking to take a break and control but James is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Brown is trying to get an arm triangle but James is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James is trying to improve his position.
The strikes coming from Brown are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
A lull in the action here as Brown stalls from top position.

Brown decides to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brown misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
James changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Brown tries to avoid it but James manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Brown to the ground. Brown escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Brown tries to clinch but James moves out of range.
James lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Brown throws a head kick but James moves out of range.
Brown throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around James's waist but James gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brown off to one side.
James jabs Brown to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Brown misses with a takedown attempt - James sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bubby Brown is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
James lands a jab to the head.
Brown keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A slow jab from James misses its intended target.

Brown moves into the clinch successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James is trying to push Brown away but Brown has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
James gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Brown.
Jesse James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bubby Brown.

Brown gets a trip takedown into half guard.
James controlling the position for now.
James is refusing to be controlled, as Brown sits in half guard.

Brown is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and James defends it well.

James is defending against the submission attempts here by Brown.

James looks like he's trying to stand up.
James trying to control here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Brown trying to control the action but James is working from the bottom.

Bubby Brown comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Brown has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Bubby Brown thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
