Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peter Sobotta!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Quinton Jackson!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jackson gets caught flat footed, as Sobotta shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Sobotta tries to free his leg and advance position but Jackson is retaining full guard.

Jackson working for a triangle but Sobotta defends it easily.
Jackson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Sobotta scoring with punches to the head and body.
Jackson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Jackson has control of Sobotta's left arm, preventing Sobotta from doing any damage.

Jackson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Jackson manages to end up in side control.

Jackson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Sobotta to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sobotta closes the distance and clinches up with Jackson, looking for a takedown. Sobotta pushes Jackson against the cage but Jackson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Sobotta throws a body kick that misses.
Jackson throws a leg kick but Sobotta sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Jackson throws a right and a left that both miss.

Sobotta wants to clinch.

Jackson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sobotta manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Sobotta is trying to control the position but Jackson postures up.
Jackson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sobotta. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sobotta wants to sweep but no luck.
Sobotta is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Peter Sobotta wasn't doing enough on the ground.

and Jackson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sobotta's guard.

Sobotta wants to clinch.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Sobotta.
Sobotta is looking to clinch but Jackson is avoiding it.
Jackson tries to clinch up but Sobotta circles away and keeps his distance.
Jackson closes the distance but Sobotta moves to the side
enabling Sobotta to counter with a crisp jab.

Jackson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sobotta tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jackson swivels and escapes.

Sobotta gets tackled into the cage by Jackson. Jackson maintains the clinch.

Sobotta ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sobotta no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Sobotta has momentary wrist control but Jackson slips an elbow through the middle.

Jackson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Sobotta can't do much from the bottom here.
Sobotta is trying to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jackson is looking to take a break and control but Sobotta is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jackson cracks Sobotta with an elbow. That is naaassty.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sobotta is looking for a sweep.

Jackson stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Sobotta fails with the takedown.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jackson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sobotta has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jackson has managed to get both his arms back between Sobotta's legs - danger averted.

Jackson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jackson lands in his opponent's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sobotta is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Quinton Jackson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Well, if Jackson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Peter Sobotta is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jackson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sobotta to the ground. Jackson is now in Sobotta's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jackson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Sobotta shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jackson pinned against the cage. Jackson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Quinton Jackson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Sobotta is pressed up against the cage. Jackson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sobotta down to the mat. Sobotta avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Well Jackson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
