PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ray Leonard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renzo DeSilka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DeSilka is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: International Love by Pitbull. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ray Leonard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Renzo DeSilka!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Leonard scores with a takedown into DeSilka's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

DeSilka looking for a guillotine here but Leonard defends easily.
Leonard postures up in DeSilka's guard and throws a big left but DeSilka blocks it.
Leonard missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

DeSilka throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
DeSilka keeping full guard, as Leonard tries to pass.
DeSilka is looking to sweep but instead, Leonard has passed into half guard.
DeSilka is looking for a sweep. Leonard is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Leonard prevents DeSilka from standing back up.
Leonard slows the pace down in half guard.

Leonard is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Leonard wants to control but DeSilka is keeping him busy.

Leonard is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, DeSilka has managed to free his arm - good work.
Leonard is looking to advance position but DeSilka won't allow it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
DeSilka is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Leonard wants to control but DeSilka is keeping him busy.

Leonard stands up out of the half guard.
DeSilka shoots for a takedown but Leonard saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Leonard clinches.
Leonard gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from DeSilka.

Leonard gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, DeSilka regains guard.

Leonard got a little sloppy there for a moment and DeSilka has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Leonard has managed to get both his arms back between DeSilka's legs - danger averted.
Leonard controls from within his opponent's guard.
Leonard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. DeSilka swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Leonard throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as DeSilka works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

DeSilka tries to land a sweep but no joy.

DeSilka keeping moving, preventing Leonard from controlling successfully.
DeSilka controls Leonard momentarily but Leonard frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ray Leonard.
Leonard fails with an attempt to clinch.

DeSilka tries to sprawl but Leonard drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
DeSilka is staying active underneath Leonard, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
DeSilka is looking for a sweep. Leonard is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
DeSilka is holding on to half guard well.

Leonard is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and DeSilka defends it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ray Leonard dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



DeSilka shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. DeSilka showed some decent athleticism there.
Leonard trying to control but DeSilka postures up.
DeSilka stalling away here and it's allowed Leonard to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Leonard is trying to control the position from the bottom.
DeSilka is looking to work some ground and pound but Leonard has wrist control.
DeSilka looking to pass the guard.
Leonard tries to land a sweep but no joy.

DeSilka tries to free his leg and advance position but Leonard is retaining full guard.
Leonard throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
DeSilka postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Leonard is trying to keep DeSilka in close.

DeSilka drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Leonard dives on top into guard.

DeSilka is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Leonard is aware though and is defending well.

DeSilka has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Leonard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
DeSilka looking for a sweep. Not yet DeSilka, not yet.

Leonard is fighting to break DeSilka's control of his arms but DeSilka is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Leonard avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

DeSilka has an active guard here but Leonard has managed to pass into half guard.
Leonard is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Leonard is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
DeSilka is trying to get back to full guard.

DeSilka is refusing to be controlled, as Leonard sits in half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Leonard prevents DeSilka from improving his position.
Leonard perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

DeSilka has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Leonard. Oh but DeSilka has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Leonard goes limp - he's gone! DeSilka jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Renzo DeSilka!
After the fight, Renzo DeSilka was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
