PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Kopylov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guy is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Mother. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Kopylov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mr Guy!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Konstantin Menshow and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kopylov misses with an uppercut

and Guy counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kopylov's guard now.
Guy in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Guy wants to control from the top but Kopylov keeps moving.
Kopylov wants to stand and escape but Guy is having none of it.
Guy pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kopylov is keeping the position for now.
Guy is pushing down on Kopylov's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kopylov is fighting to maintain full guard but Guy has managed to sneak the leg through.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Guy is keen to just control but Kopylov is a slippery customer.
Guy tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kopylov knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Guy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kopylov's head.

Guy takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
It looks like Guy might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Guy uses his free foot to push down on Kopylov's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kopylov.

Guy wants to control the pace but Kopylov is squirming around nicely.
Guy throwing strikes but Kopylov recovers to half guard. A much better position.
Kopylov is looking to escape.
Guy is pressing down on Kopylov's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kopylov is holding on for now.
Guy moves into full mount! Kopylov won't be happy about that!
Guy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Guy looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Guy content just to control the position here.

Guy takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Guy trying to control but Kopylov is having none of it.

Kopylov is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Guy sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Kopylov blocking the ground and pound.
Guy misses with a head shot.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kopylov's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Guy trying to control but Kopylov is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Guy dominated that round.

Guy closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kopylov circles away.

and Guy counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Vladimir Kopylov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Guy throws a shot from downtown. Kopylov moves away and avoids it.

No joy there for Kopylov, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Guy misses with a series of wild punches.

Guy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kopylov keeps working.

Guy in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Kopylov tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Guy!
