Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Mick Wlison! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Forrewt Griffin! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Illya Tyunina and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Griffin shoots for a double leg takedown but Wlison sprawls well. He's pushed Griffin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Wlison shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Griffin sprawls well. Griffin wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Wlison gets slowly back to his feet. Griffin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Griffin fails with the takedown. Mick Wlison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Forrewt Griffin. Wlison closes the distance and clinches up with Griffin, looking for a takedown. Wlison pushes Griffin against the cage but Griffin circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. No luck with that takedown attempt from Griffin. No luck with that takedown attempt from Griffin. Griffin fails to land the takedown. Griffin misses with a takedown attempt and Wlison counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Griffin looks gassed! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Griffin can't keep his opponent in guard - Wlison advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Wlison seems to be working for a kimura but Griffin defends the submission attempt. Griffin tries to kick Wlison off but Wlison keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wlison frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Wlison trying to control but he's not successful this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Griffin is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Wlison has taken his back.
Wlison is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Griffin has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Wlison has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Griffin taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Wlison doesn't care though - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mick Wlison! As Mick Wlison got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: well well looks like i ended nates 2 win streak what now u suck get your game up they call me the punisher'.
