Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Charles Matos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Dottson! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Matheus Silva and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matos goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Matos closes the distance and clinches. Matos breaks the clinch.
Matos drops Dottson with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Dottson looks back up at him and smiles so Matos waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Dottson is rocked!
It looks like Michael Dottson has been cut. This has been an exciting period of action! Dottson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Dottson stops Matos from getting back to his feet.
Matos has hold of Dottson's hands but Dottson slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Matos tries to kick Dottson off but Dottson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Dottson throwing shots but Matos is blocking nicely. Dottson throwing shots but Matos is blocking nicely. Dottson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Matos's head. Matos keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Matos on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Matos pushes Dottson off and gets back to his feet. Matos will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Matos looks to land a combination but Dottson avoids it well. Nice body punch from Matos. Matos slaps away a takedown attempt from Dottson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dottson shoots for a double leg takedown but Matos sprawls well. He's pushed Dottson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Dottson looks gassed! Matos cracks Dottson with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Matos has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Dottson to stand back up! Dottson is still on wobbly legs! Can Matos finish him? Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Matos punishes Dottson's body with a nice straight punch. Dottson drops his hands momentarily. Matos doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Dottson staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Dottson doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Charles Matos! A very excited looking Charles Matos rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
