Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Michaels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Michaels might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Take A Look Around - Limp Bizkit. Smith has chosen Big and Red by EC as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Michaels! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matthew Smith! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Michaels blocks a low kick nicely. Michaels throws a right and a left that Smith avoids nicely. Michaels misses with the combination.

Michaels shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Michaels showed some decent athleticism there. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Michaels is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Smith is just riding it out for now. Michaels eventually gives up the hold. Michaels wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith actively working from the bottom here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smith is looking to improve his position.
Michaels wants to work for an arm triangle but Smith is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Michaels is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Michaels passes to side control. Michaels is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Smith knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Michaels wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smith, who protects the arm well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Michaels working the strikes but Smith uses the opportunity to regain half guard. Smith has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Michaels is working away from the top position though. Michaels wants to stand up but Smith has a hold of him and won't allow it. Smith is looking for a sweep. Michaels is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Michaels is looking to stall here but Smith recovers full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Michaels looking to pass the guard. Smith is looking for a triangle here but Michaels uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Michaels trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom. Smith defending against the ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Phil Michaels dominated that round. That's time! Michaels's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Smith shoots in looking for a takedown but Michaels manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Smith's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Michaels doesn't succeed with the takedown and Smith counters with a shoot takedown. Michaels fights it but they end up in guard. Michaels keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully. Smith is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Michaels is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Michaels has escaped and now he's on top! Michaels slips nicely into half guard. Smith tries to roll over but Michaels keeps him under control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Michaels is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Michaels seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Smith on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Michaels wants to pass to mount but Smith is defending the position. Michaels is looking for a kimura here.
Smith is in trouble now - Michaels has advanced to mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Michaels pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Smith is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Smith wants to control but Michaels is having none of it. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Michaels jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Smith is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Smith and Michaels has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Michaels goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Smith rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Michaels's guard! Nice work there by Smith! Smith drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Michaels manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Smith has Michaels in his guard. Smith is trying to control the position but Michaels postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Michaels trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Michaels pushes down on Smith's leg and manages to get into half guard. Michaels is thwarting Smith's attempts to control the position. Smith is refusing to be controlled, as Michaels sits in half guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Michaels is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Phil Michaels dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Michaels has his takedown stuffed and Smith counters with a shoot takedown. Michaels fights it but they end up in guard. Phil Michaels overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Smith pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Michaels is keeping the position for now. Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Michaels gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Smith keeping moving, preventing Michaels from controlling successfully. Michaels is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Smith has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Michaels is looking to defend but Smith has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Michaels! Smith pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Michaels taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Matthew Smith! After the fight, Matthew Smith was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
