PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kenpachi Zaraki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenpachi Zaraki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Daniel Lee!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zaraki forces Lee back against the cage and clinches.
Zaraki digs a right hand into Lee's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Lee's gas tank.
Zaraki lands with a left to the head.
A short left from Zaraki.

Zaraki has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Lee uses from the top position.
Lee is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Lee trying to control but Zaraki is working from the bottom.

Zaraki has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lee can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Lee throws a big elbow that misses.

Lee lands a couple of elbows.

Zaraki throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Lee escapes and throws Zaraki's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Lee tries to move into full mount but can't pass Zaraki's legs.

Lee stands up.
Lee misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Zaraki.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zaraki thuds a left hand into Lee's body.
Zaraki throws a one two combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lee lands a nice hook to Zaraki's body. Zaraki takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Lee moves to clinch but Zaraki breaks away
and Zaraki counters with a thumping low kick.
Lee throws a sloppy head kick
and Zaraki makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Lee looks for a takedown but Zaraki sprawls well.
Lee tries to move into range but Zaraki moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lee wants to clinch but Zaraki slips to the side
and Zaraki cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Zaraki feints and then cracks Lee's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Lee down.
Zaraki catches Lee with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Lee throws a right and a left that both miss.
Zaraki throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Lee stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Lee shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Zaraki as he avoids it easily.
Lee wants to clinch
and Zaraki counters with a straight right hand.
Zaraki looks to score with a jab to the body but Lee is just out of range.
Lee fails with a takedown attempt.
Kenpachi Zaraki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Lee.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Lee or perhaps it was just good defense by Zaraki which made him look bad.
Zaraki scores with a body shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lee manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Zaraki on his heels. He'll look to pass Zaraki's guard now, I'm sure.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Lee is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Zaraki knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenpachi Zaraki dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Zaraki pushes Lee up against the cage in a clinch.
Zaraki lands with a short shot to the head.
Zaraki stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Zaraki pulls Lee into guard.
Zaraki might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Zaraki looking for a guillotine here but Lee defends easily.

Zaraki has his foot on Lee's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lee works his way back into a safe position though.

Lee trying to control but Zaraki is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lee pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Zaraki is keeping the position for now.
Lee trying to control the position from guard on top but Zaraki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Zaraki looking for subs off his back but Lee has passed one foot through into half guard.

Zaraki is trying to maintain the position but Lee is very close to passing his half guard.
Lee is keen to just control but Zaraki is a slippery customer.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Daniel Lee.
Lee tries for a takedown but Zaraki circles away easily
and Zaraki counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Lee doesn't manage to clinch there - Zaraki circles away.
A slapping leg kick lands for Zaraki.
Lee tries a head kick but it misses.
Lee fails with the takedown
and Zaraki counters with a nice uppercut.
Kenpachi Zaraki is winning the standup battle so far.
Lee tries for a takedown but Zaraki circles away easily
enabling Zaraki to counter with a crisp jab.
Kenpachi Zaraki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Lee.
Zaraki scores with a decent looking hook.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zaraki keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
A head kick misses from Lee.
Nice uppercut lands for Zaraki. That snapped Lee's head back.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lee throws a right hand that Zaraki ducks under and follows up with a left that Zaraki also avoids with ease.
Daniel Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lee swings for the body but Zaraki moves out of range.
Zaraki leaves Lee with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Zaraki counters with a thumping low kick.
Lee is breathing heavily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Zaraki fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Lee has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Zaraki connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Zaraki rushes Lee and presses him up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenpachi Zaraki dominated that second round.
That's time! Zaraki's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Zaraki lands with a shot to the body.
Lee doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Zaraki counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Zaraki works Lee's body with a nice hook.
Zaraki lands a really nice looking cross but Lee seems unphased.
Lee throws a body kick that misses.
Lee takes a jab right on the kisser.
A low kick from Lee misses
and Zaraki cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


Lee is rocked!
Zaraki connects with a body shot that sends Lee's belly button to the back.
Lee takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lee gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Zaraki counters with a nice body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zaraki is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Lee is still on wobbly legs! Can Zaraki finish him?
Zaraki walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Lee drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Zaraki swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Lee's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:13 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kenpachi Zaraki!
