Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Atsushi Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alvaro Ibanez Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gracie might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Smoke Serpent - Jiu Jitsu. Atsushi Gracie had a look across the ring there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Atsushi Gracie!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alvaro Ibanez Santos!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Daniel Blasius and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santos bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Gracie is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Santos looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Gracie is avoiding damage well.
Gracie tries to bench press Santos off him but Santos keeps the position.
Santos working the ground and pound.
Gracie is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Santos off and has taken his back!
Gracie is trying to stick to Santos's back but Santos is turning into Gracie. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Gracie's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Santos.

Santos shoots in for a takedown but Gracie shows good takedown defense.
Gracie feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Santos's calf.
Gracie throws a leg kick which misses Santos's front leg but catches the back leg as Santos tries to avoid it.
Gracie fakes the leg kick and cracks Santos in the body.
Santos shoots in for a takedown but Gracie shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Atsushi Gracie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alvaro Ibanez Santos.
Gracie leaves Santos with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Santos takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Santos shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gracie sprawls well. Gracie wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Santos gets slowly back to his feet.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Santos.

Santos is staying active underneath Gracie, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Gracie is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Santos is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Alvaro Ibanez Santos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Santos shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gracie pinned against the ropes. Gracie gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Gracie fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Santos has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Gracie is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Santos has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Gracie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Santos is looking to escape.
Alvaro Ibanez Santos has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
