Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Byrd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ray Romundo! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Romundo clinches with his opponent.
A frustrated look appears on Byrd's face as he tries to break the clinch. Byrd has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Romundo clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Romundo looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. Byrd missing with strikes from the back. Romundo holding both Byrd 's hands and preventing any damage. Byrd is looking to control Romundo but Romundo is wriggling around and keeping busy. Romundo is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Byrd is persistently looking for the submission but Romundo is defending it well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Byrd working for the choke.
That's one minute gone in the round. Romundo is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Romundo tries to break free.
Romundo trying to control the position but Byrd manages to sink in the hooks. Byrd controlling well, preventing Romundo from escaping the position.
Romundo tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Byrd lands a big shot there that rocks Romundo but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Romundo is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Byrd has isolated one of Romundo's arms. Romundo looking to fight him off but Byrd twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
