PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Worrell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eric Worrell told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricky Edgar !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eric Worrell!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Lou da Vinci and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edgar keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Edgar changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Worrell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Worrell is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Worrell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Edgar . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Worrell gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Edgar regains guard.

Worrell is taking a breather. Edgar says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Edgar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Eric Worrell hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Edgar stuffs the takedown attempt from Worrell. Worrell gets slowly back to his feet.
Worrell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Edgar circles away quickly and effectively.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Worrell.

Worrell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ricky Edgar will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Worrell changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Edgar tries to avoid it but Worrell manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Edgar to the ground. Edgar escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Worrell shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Worrell showed some decent athleticism there.

Worrell's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Worrell looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Worrell throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Edgar tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Worrell is in Edgar 's guard.

Edgar bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Worrell's guard.

Edgar decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Worrell shoots for a takedown but Edgar saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Edgar is working Worrell over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Edgar postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Worrell looks a forlorn figure.
Edgar has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Worrell's face.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Worrell is in a horrible position here. Edgar smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Edgar , winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
