PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Choi Sung Jung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shinji Takeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takeda has chosen Fort Minor-Kenji as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Choi Sung Jung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinji Takeda!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Hirohito Nitta and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Takeda looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Takeda looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Jung is trying to control but Takeda manages to pass to mount!
Jung tries to lock up and control but Takeda gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Takeda moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Jung has worked his arm free - good work by Jung!

Takeda tries for a kimura but Jung is defending well.
Jung is looking to reverse the position.

Jung explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Jung fails with a takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Takeda.
Takeda shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jung but Jung pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Takeda shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jung defends it nicely.
Choi Sung Jung has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shinji Takeda.
Jung fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Takeda avoids it really well and circles away.

Jung shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Takeda defends it nicely.

Takeda wants to clinch up but Jung keeps it at a distance.
Jung shoots in looking for a takedown. Takeda tries to sprawl out of it but Jung keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Takeda manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jung misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Takeda instigates a clinch.
Takeda tries to score a body lock takedown but Jung shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Jung fails to pull guard.
A frustrated look appears on Jung's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Jung is working for takedown but Takeda is calmly controlling the position for now.

Takeda is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Jung is breathing heavily.
Jung stalling in the clinch but Takeda improves position.
Takeda prevents Jung from breaking the clinch.

Takeda pulls guard successfully.

Takeda is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Takeda scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Takeda misses with a takedown attempt - Jung sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Jung lands with a nice combination. Takeda backs away looking to recover.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jung throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Takeda's waist but Takeda gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jung off to one side.
Jung shoots for a double leg takedown but Takeda sprawls well. He's pushed Jung's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Takeda displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jung.
Jung fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Takeda dives in and grabs Jung's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jung pushes down on Takeda's head and hops out.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jung throws a right and a left that both miss.
Takeda fails with a takedown attempt.
Takeda tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jung sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Takeda somewhat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Shinji Takeda will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jung sizes up Takeda with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Jung scores with a takedown into Takeda's guard.

Takeda had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jung defends it easily.
Takeda working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jung.
Jung tries to free his leg and advance position but Takeda is retaining full guard.

Takeda escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jung gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Takeda has a closed guard, preventing Jung from standing up.

Takeda manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Shinji Takeda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Takeda is looking to clinch.
Takeda stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Takeda wants it to stay on the feet.
Takeda fails with a takedown attempt.
Takeda is breathing heavily.
Takeda defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jung.
Takeda tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jung wants to clinch up but Takeda keeps it at a distance.
Jung stuffs the takedown attempt from Takeda. Takeda gets slowly back to his feet.
Jung shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Choi Sung Jung. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jung leaves Takeda with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jung shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Takeda as he avoids it easily.

and Takeda counters with a nice double leg into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Takeda throws an elbow that misses. Jung uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Takeda's guard. Nice move by Jung!

Takeda is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jung defends well.
Jung postures up in Takeda's guard and throws a big left but Takeda blocks it.

A close second round but Shinji Takeda will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Jung gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Takeda keeping moving, preventing Jung from controlling successfully.
Takeda has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Jung has passed into side control.

Jung decides to stand back up.
Jung slaps away a takedown attempt from Takeda, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Takeda takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jung tries to clinch up but Takeda circles away and keeps his distance.

Jung rushes Takeda and presses him up against the cage.
Takeda has Jung pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jung manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Jung misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Takeda.
Jung is trying to drag Takeda to the mat but Takeda just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Takeda tries to pull guard but Jung holds him up against the cage and eventually Takeda drops back down to his feet.
Choi Sung Jung has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shinji Takeda.
Jung wants to break the clinch but can't.
Takeda misses with a punch to the body.
Takeda can't find room to land a body shot as Jung controls the action.

Takeda has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Jung clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Jung wants to control his opponent's hands but Takeda gets his hands free.
Jung breaks Takeda's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Jung knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Takeda on the ground.

Jung decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jung fails to land the takedown.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Takeda shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jung is trying to defend but Takeda finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Takeda is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jung to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jung shrugs it off.

Jung is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Takeda's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Choi Sung Jung.
I think Takeda has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Shinji Takeda spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
