Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ricardo Ramirez! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lee Kawasaki! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shirou Masuda and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kawasaki closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ramirez to the mat! Ramirez manages to get full guard. Ramirez keeping moving, preventing Kawasaki from controlling successfully. Kawasaki looking to pass the guard. Kawasaki has gone for a leg lock! Ramirez slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kawasaki's guard. Kawasaki is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Ramirez postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ramirez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Kawasaki not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kawasaki looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kawasaki is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kawasaki working for submissions but it's allowed Ramirez to get to half guard.
Kawasaki is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ramirez gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Ramirez dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Ramirez stuffs the takedown attempt from Kawasaki. Kawasaki gets slowly back to his feet. Ramirez buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ramirez throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Kawasaki on the side of the head. Ramirez connects with a single shot there.
It looks like Lee Kawasaki has been cut. Ramirez throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Kawasaki slips a jab and a cross from Ramirez.
Kawasaki thows a body shot but no joy. Kawasaki is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ramirez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Ramirez thumps Kawasaki with a low kick. Kawasaki looks gassed!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kawasaki shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ramirez defends it nicely. Ricardo Ramirez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lee Kawasaki. Kawasaki walks straight into a right hand from Ramirez - that's dropped him! Ramirez jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Kawasaki from any more punishment! Kawasaki complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Ricardo Ramirez! Ricardo Ramirez retains his bantamweight title! Ricardo Ramirez really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that FinnFighter Nutrition (Only 160Q supps!) logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
