Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marcus Van Cas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tank Abott! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Abott tries to close the distance and clinch but Van Cas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Van Cas doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Abott clinches up against the cage. Abott escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Van Cas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Abott's waist but Abott gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Van Cas off to one side. Van Cas has a takedown stuffed. Marcus Van Cas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Abott instigates a clinch. Van Cas looking for a takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcus Van Cas. That's going to take a lot out of him. Van Cas fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Van Cas has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Abott is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Abott pushes Van Cas back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Abott gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Abott trying to control but Van Cas is working from the bottom. Abott stands up from guard. Let's bang! Van Cas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Abott is staying active underneath Van Cas, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Abott wants to control but Van Cas is keeping busy.
Van Cas wants to stand up but Abott has a hold of him and won't allow it. Abott looking for submissions off his back. The fighters are battling for position here. Abott manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Van Cas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Van Cas could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Van Cas would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Van Cas is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Abott working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Van Cas doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Abott is tightening it up a little... Van Cas has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Van Cas reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Van Cas taps out! Nice BJJ there by Abott!
