PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nobu Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Bashor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bashor is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Monster by Skillet. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nobu Murphy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Bashor!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Eliza Hachem and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bashor throws a jab when Murphy was well out of range.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Murphy with a poor takedown
and Bashor counters with a left to the body.
Bashor swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Murphy fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Bashor throws a head kick that misses

and Murphy counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Bashor is controlling Murphy's trapped leg to prevent Murphy from advancing to side control.
Bashor tries to kick Murphy off but Murphy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Murphy takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Murphy missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Bashor is looking for a sweep. Murphy is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Murphy stalling.
Bashor pushes Murphy off but Murphy dives into side control.
Bashor is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Murphy is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Bashor will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Murphy has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Bashor struggling a bit here.
Murphy controls the position from side control.
Bashor is trying to get back to half guard.
Bashor is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Bashor squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Murphy tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Bashor wants to control but Murphy is having none of it.
Murphy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bashor wants to control but Murphy is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nobu Murphy dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Murphy doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Bashor counters with a one-two to the body.
Bashor lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Murphy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bashor but Bashor pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Bashor slaps away a takedown attempt from Murphy, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nobu Murphy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bashor fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Murphy displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bashor throws out the jab.
Bashor fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Murphy has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Murphy takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Bashor misses with a few strikes there.
Bashor connects with a body shot.
Bashor is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Murphy rather than just go for the knockout.
Murphy fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
James Bashor is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Murphy avoids the body shot from Bashor.
Bashor throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Murphy stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Murphy moves out of range as Bashor strikes.
Murphy chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Bashor can pounce on him.
Murphy tries for a takedown but Bashor circles away easily
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bashor wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Murphy fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Murphy checks a leg kick.
James Bashor seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Bashor throws a low kick but it's checked well by Murphy.
Nobu Murphy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bashor fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Murphy manages to avoid it.
Murphy shoots in for a takedown but Bashor shows good takedown defense.
Bashor missing with a left hand there. Murphy was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Murphy shoots in looking for a takedown. Bashor tries to sprawl out of it but Murphy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bashor manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Bashor dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bashor misses with a left hand

and Murphy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bashor's guard.
Bashor is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Murphy is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Bashor showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Bashor counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Bashor throws a sloppy head kick and Murphy moves out of range easily.

Murphy takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

and Murphy counters with a shoot takedown. Bashor fights it but they end up in guard.
Murphy slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Bashor is looking to stand back up but Murphy counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Bashor.
Bashor pushes Murphy off looking to stand but Murphy dives back in and keeps control.
Murphy frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
You get the feeling that Bashor really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Murphy controlling the pace for now.

Bashor wants to try and get back to his feet.
Bashor is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Murphy looking to control and managing it successfully.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Nobu Murphy has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Murphy fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bashor avoids it really well and circles away.

Bashor uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Murphy shoots and misses
and Bashor counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Murphy thinking.

Bashor throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Murphy sees it coming and avoids it easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nobu Murphy showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Murphy has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
