PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Murphy MacManus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Marcos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). David Marcos told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Murphy MacManus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Marcos!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Aafke Stam and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marcos is trying hard to land a takedown here. MacManus sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
MacManus wants to clinch.
Marcos looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? MacManus is fending him off so far but Marcos persists. Nope, MacManus circles away and we're back to standing.

Marcos gets a double leg takedown into MacManus's guard.
Marcos wants to stand but MacManus has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
MacManus has his hands on Marcos's head, controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Murphy MacManus.

MacManus gets in close and instigates a clinch.
MacManus effectively controlling the action here.
MacManus goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
MacManus looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
A right handed body shot lands from MacManus.

MacManus breaks from the clinch.
MacManus doesn't manage to clinch there - Marcos circles away.
Murphy MacManus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
MacManus tries to close the distance and clinch but Marcos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Marcos fails with a takedown attempt.
Murphy MacManus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Marcos.

MacManus leaves Marcos with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

MacManus gets caught napping as Marcos dives in and scores a takedown. MacManus manages to retain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
MacManus wants to sweep here but Marcos controlling him for the moment.
Marcos engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Marcos might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control MacManus kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. David Marcos was stalling too much, according to the referee.
MacManus fails with an attempt to clinch.

MacManus closes the distance and clinches.

MacManus pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Marcos shoots in but MacManus avoids the takedown attempt easily.
MacManus fails to land with a series of punches.
Marcos takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Murphy MacManus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
MacManus scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
No luck for Marcos with that takedown attempt.
A punch combination from MacManus misses.
A jab lands there for MacManus.
MacManus wants to land a leg kick but Marcos is out of range.
MacManus misses with a two punch combination.
The fight stays on the outside here - MacManus looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

MacManus throws a left that rocks Marcos and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! MacManus dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Marcos regain composure!

It looks like David Marcos has been cut.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Marcos is looking to work his way out of this bad position but MacManus is controlling him well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

MacManus goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

MacManus trying to control the position but instead, Marcos has worked for underhooks and has pushed MacManus into the cage.

Marcos is trying to work for a single leg takedown but MacManus pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Marcos goes for a takedown attempt but MacManus pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Murphy MacManus is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
MacManus looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
MacManus defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Marcos.

Marcos shoots in looking for a takedown but MacManus manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Marcos's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Marcos closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Marcos is looking to take a break and control but MacManus is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
MacManus is trying to control but can't.

Marcos wants to pass to mount but MacManus is defending the position.

Marcos is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and MacManus defends it well.
Marcos wants to stand up but MacManus has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Marcos thows a huge punch but MacManus dodges it nicely.
MacManus wants to control but Marcos is keeping busy and won't allow it.
MacManus keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Marcos keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
MacManus cracks Marcos with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

MacManus closes the distance and clinches.
MacManus leaning his opponent against the cage.

MacManus escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
MacManus moves in looking to clinch but Marcos pushes him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on David Marcos's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Marcos takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
MacManus throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
MacManus moves in looking to clinch but Marcos pushes him off.
MacManus tries to clinch there but Marcos circles away.
MacManus tries to land a leg kick but Marcos saw it coming and moves away.
MacManus tries to close the distance and clinch up but Marcos swats him away and circles back towards the center.
The fight stays on the outside here - MacManus looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
MacManus misses with a low kick.

MacManus gets tackled into the cage by Marcos. Marcos maintains the clinch.
MacManus is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Marcos is keeping busy.

MacManus wants to break free but Marcos has control.
MacManus slows down the pace here.
MacManus lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
MacManus trying to land knees to the body.
MacManus misses with the head strike.
MacManus lands a body shot in the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on MacManus - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Marcos changes levels and goes for a takedown here. MacManus fights it off and pushes away nicely.

MacManus's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Murphy MacManus is winning the standup battle so far.
MacManus lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Marcos takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Marcos fails with the takedown.
MacManus wants to land a leg kick but Marcos is out of range.
MacManus fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Marcos checks it well.
MacManus misses with a double jab.
MacManus fails with an attempt to clinch.
MacManus swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Marcos shoots in for a takedown but MacManus shows good takedown defense.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Marcos moves out of range of the body kick.
David Marcos has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

MacManus clinches.

And that's the end of the fight!
Murphy MacManus showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for MacManus, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
