PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mathew Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Lane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mathew Dean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jack Lane!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Sano and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lane slaps away a takedown attempt from Dean, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Lane stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lane wants it to stay on the feet.
Dean wants to clinch up but Lane keeps it at a distance.
Lane throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dean.
Dean throws an overhand right that lands on Lane's shoulder, as Lane tries to avoid the shot.
Dean misses with a takedown attempt

and Lane decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Dean's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mathew Dean. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Dean is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Lane postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Lane is looking to stand up but Dean won't let him.

Lane got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dean has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lane has managed to get both his arms back between Dean's legs - danger averted.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lane is looking to work some ground and pound but Dean has wrist control.
Lane lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Dean wants to get back to his feet but Lane is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Lane postures up in Dean's guard and throws a big left but Dean blocks it.
Dean working a defensive guard here.
Lane throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dean works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Lane trying to control but Dean is working from the bottom.
Dean has a closed guard, preventing Lane from standing up.
Lane in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lane is stalling in the full guard.

Lane gets to his feet. Dean looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lane looks to land a combination but Dean avoids it well.
Dean has a takedown stuffed.
Dean shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lane as he jumps to the side.
Jack Lane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lane shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Dean manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Lane is looking to advance position but Dean has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lane tries to hold on but Dean postures up.
Lane keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lane holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Dean tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Dean looking to control but Lane is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Dean is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lane is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dean throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Lane because Dean loaded up on that one.
Lane is squirming around, avoiding Dean's attempts to control the action.
Dean avoids the attempt from Lane to control.
Dean tries to control but Lane wriggling away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dean pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Lane dominated that round.
That's time! Dean's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Lane lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Lane.

Lane gets a takedown into half guard.
Lane is trying to control. Dean wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Dean tries to get to full guard but Lane has control of the leg.

Lane decides to stand and escape the position.
Lane fails to land with a series of punches.
Dean fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
No joy there for Lane, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dean has his takedown stuffed

and Lane counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Dean!
Lane is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lane cracks Dean with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Lane prevents Dean from getting the reversal.
Jack Lane has got the better of the ground game so far.
BOOM! Lane connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Lane putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Lane wants to control the pace but Dean is squirming around nicely.
Lane throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Dean tries to hold on but Lane postures up.

Lane goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Dean turns into him and now he's in Lane's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lane working a defensive guard but Dean manages to pass into side control anyway.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The strikes coming from Dean are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Lane really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dean. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dean working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Dean wants to control for a moment but Lane uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Dean sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Lane defending well though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dean trying to control from Lane's half guard. Lane has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Dean controlling from the top position.
Lane trying to control the position.
Dean trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Lane keeping moving, preventing Dean from controlling successfully.

Dean stands up from Lane's guard - Dean perhaps looking for a knockout.

Jack Lane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Dean misses with a head kick.
Lane avoids the head kick by Dean.
Lane throws a half hearted mid kick.
Dean getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Lane misses with a wild body shot.
Lane throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Lane. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Dean has his takedown stuffed

and Lane counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dean won't be happy with that.

Lane decides to take the fight back to the feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dean fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lane throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dean tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lane swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lane takes a swing at Dean's ribcage but misses.
Dean dodges the punch combination from Lane.
Dean misses with a takedown attempt

and Lane counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Dean's guard now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mathew Dean. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dean is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Lane frees his head nicely. Oh but Dean has switched to an armbar! Lane is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
