PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Rambo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jenson Hammilton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Rambo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jenson Hammilton!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yukihiro Shimada and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rambo closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Hammilton is pressed up against the cage. Rambo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hammilton down to the mat. Hammilton avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Rambo misses the shot to the body.
Rambo shoots in looking for a takedown but Hammilton manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rambo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rambo is looking to clinch.
Rambo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Hammilton manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hammilton shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rambo pinned against the cage. Rambo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Hammilton closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hammilton lands in his opponent's guard.
Rambo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hammilton prevents Rambo from getting back to his feet.
Hammilton works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Hammilton looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Rambo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Rambo trying to hold on to Hammilton's head to control him but Hammilton postures up.

Hammilton is trying to work for a kimura but Rambo is defending well.
Rambo wants to get back to full guard.
Hammilton content to control rather than advance.

Hammilton seems to be working for a kimura but Rambo defends the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Rambo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hammilton pulls his head out easily.
Hammilton slows the pace down in half guard.
Rambo is trying to get back to full guard.
Hammilton prevents Rambo from standing back up.

Hammilton wants to work for an arm triangle but Rambo is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Hammilton seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rambo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hammilton uses his free foot to push down on Rambo's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rambo.
The referee warns Rambo that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Hammilton postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Rambo looks a forlorn figure.
Hammilton tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Rambo is bucking up trying to escape but Hammilton cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Hammilton trying to control but Rambo is having none of it.
Hammilton sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hammilton tries to control but Rambo wriggling away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
BOOM! Hammilton connects with a massive shot to the dome!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jenson Hammilton dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hammilton is looking to clinch but Rambo is avoiding it.
Rambo shoots in but no luck this time.

Hammilton scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Jenson Hammilton has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rambo pushes Hammilton away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hammilton gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Hammilton trying to control the position but Rambo is working away.
Hammilton taking a breather here.
Rambo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hammilton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Hammilton just content to control the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Rambo is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Hammilton trying to control the action but Rambo is working from the bottom.

Hammilton tries for a kimura but Rambo is defending well.
Rambo tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

Rambo is looking for a sweep.

Hammilton stands up.
Hammilton looks to land a combination but Rambo avoids it well.
Hammilton tries to clinch up.
Hammilton shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rambo as he jumps to the side.
Hammilton should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Rambo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hammilton's waist but Hammilton gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rambo off to one side.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hammilton is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Rambo's half guard.

Rambo trying to control from the bottom.
Hammilton seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Hammilton throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Rambo is trying to control but can't.
Rambo is staying active underneath Hammilton, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Hammilton lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Rambo pushes Hammilton off looking to stand but Hammilton dives back in and keeps control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hammilton is taking a breather. Rambo says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jenson Hammilton wasn't active enough on the ground.
Hammilton misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Hammilton scores with a takedown into Rambo's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hammilton gets to his feet. Rambo looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A swing and a miss from Hammilton.

Rambo tries to sprawl but Hammilton drives through with a takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jenson Hammilton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Hammilton shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rambo manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Hammilton wants to control from the top but Rambo keeps moving.

Rambo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hammilton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hammilton manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hammilton trying to control the position from guard on top but Rambo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hammilton controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Hammilton slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Hammilton decides to stand back up.
Hammilton pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Rambo clinches up against the cage.
Rambo tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hammilton smiles and moves away.

Hammilton manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Rambo on his heels. He'll look to pass Rambo's guard now, I'm sure.

Hammilton's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Rambo has momentary wrist control but Hammilton slips an elbow through the middle.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hammilton gets to his feet. Rambo looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Rambo throws a left and a right that both miss

Hammilton not doing much here.

Hammilton is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rambo sees it coming and defends easily.
Well, if Hammilton is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Rambo is looking to get back to is feet but Hammilton passes into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hammilton working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Rambo wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Hammilton has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hammilton has hold of Rambo's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Rambo tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Hammilton cranks the arm and Rambo screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Rambo, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
