Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joca Fenomeno! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Murphy Harris! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fenomeno defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Harris. Harris scoring well with a low kick there.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Harris. Harris shoots for a takedown but Fenomeno saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Joca Fenomeno has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Murphy Harris. Harris shoots in and gets a takedown into Fenomeno's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Harris tries to free his leg and advance position but Fenomeno is retaining full guard. Harris stands up and waves to Fenomeno to follow him. Murphy Harris seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Harris bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. You can see the frustration on Fenomeno's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Fenomeno is trying to improve his position. Harris looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. That's one minute gone in the round. Harris thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Harris landing strikes. Fenomeno tries to improve position but can't. Fenomeno is trying to control Harris's posture but Harris avoids it. Harris working the ground and pound from side control. Harris wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fenomeno, who protects the arm well. Fenomeno wants to get back to his feet but Harris is dominant here and he's now got Fenomeno's back!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Harris is cranking Fenomeno's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Fenomeno! He's tightened the choke and Fenomeno is tapping out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Murphy Harris! In his post fight interview, Murphy Harris started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
