PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Stevie Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dilbert Chavez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Tragically Hip- Thugs. Chavez is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: When Worlds Colide by Powerman 5000. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Stevie Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dilbert Chavez!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Dean Styles and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Chavez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Walker manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Walker fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Walker throws a leg kick that misses.
A left lands for Chavez.
Walker swings for the body but Chavez moves out of range.
Chavez misses with a hook.

Walker gets caught flat footed, as Chavez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Chavez preventing the sweep.
Chavez postures up in Walker's guard and throws a big left but Walker blocks it.
Walker wants to stand but Chavez is controlling the position.
Chavez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Walker works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Chavez with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Chavez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Walker is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Walker has escaped and now he's on top!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Walker is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Chavez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Walker is one step ahead there.

We're going to have a standup here because Stevie Walker wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Chavez fails with the takedown.
Walker misses with a jab, cross combination.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Chavez swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Chavez takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Walker with a hook.
Chavez shoots in looking for a takedown. Walker tries to sprawl out of it but Chavez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Walker manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A punch lands to the side of Chavez 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Walker walks into a left hand.
Chavez takes one to the side of the head.
Chavez throws a body punch but Walker moves out of range.
Chavez checks a leg kick.
Walker fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Walker thows a body shot but no joy.
Walker stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Walker wants it to stay on the feet.
Stevie Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dilbert Chavez.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dilbert Chavez will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Chavez moves to clinch but Walker breaks away
and Walker counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Chavez tries for a takedown but Walker sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Chavez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Walker pinned against the cage. Walker gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Walker dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Jab, jab by Chavez - just one landing.
Walker tries to clinch up.
Chavez moves out of range of the strikes.
Chavez is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Walker.
Chavez throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Walker on the side of the head.
Chavez swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Walker.
Walker throws a low kick but Chavez avoids it.

Chavez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Walker is pulling down on Chavez's head. It's preventing any offense from Chavez, at least for the moment.

Chavez throws a strike but Walker rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Chavez has his hands on Walker's head, controlling the position.
Chavez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Walker is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Stevie Walker has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Dilbert Chavez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Chavez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Walker!

Chavez sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Walker is working to get back to half guard.
Chavez is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Walker can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Walker is bucking up trying to escape but Chavez cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Stevie Walker has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Walker is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Chavez lands with some strikes.
Walker tries to reverse the position but Chavez maintains control.
BOOM! Chavez connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The referee warns Walker that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.


Walker is rocked!
Poor strikes thrown by Chavez there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Oh Walker is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Chavez cracks Walker with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Dilbert Chavez is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Chavez throws a sloppy strike and Walker uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Walker has ended up in Chavez's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dilbert Chavez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Chavez winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Dilbert Chavez really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Mango Nutrition (90% Laundry) logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
