Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Steve Dela Cruz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mauricio Machida! The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Patrick Alders and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Machida tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dela Cruz swats him away and circles back towards the center. Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign! Dela Cruz shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Machida is trying to defend but Dela Cruz finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Machida taking some punishment here, with Dela Cruz in his half guard. Machida wants to improve his position but Dela Cruz is controlling well.
Machida really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dela Cruz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Dela Cruz missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Machida has hold of Dela Cruz's hands but Dela Cruz slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Machida might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dela Cruz kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Dela Cruz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Dela Cruz working Machida over with strikes. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Dela Cruz stands up and beckons Machida to join him on the feet.

Dela Cruz gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Dela Cruz connects with a couple of short punches. Dela Cruz landing some decent shots from guard. Machida not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dela Cruz lands a couple of elbows. Dela Cruz working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Machida's head. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Machida holds on and takes a little breather. Dela Cruz lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Dela Cruz sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Machida's guard. Machida wants to control but Dela Cruz is keeping busy and won't allow it. Dela Cruz working Machida over with strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Dela Cruz is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Machida sees it coming and defends easily. Machida is trying to maintain the position but Dela Cruz is very close to passing his half guard. Dela Cruz prevents Machida from improving his position. Dela Cruz is looking for a kimura here.

Dela Cruz takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Dela Cruz lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Machida wants to improve his position but Dela Cruz is controlling well.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Machida wants to improve his position but Dela Cruz is controlling well.
Dela Cruz is nestled in close to Machida, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Dela Cruz working over Machida with some ground and pound. Machida looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Dela Cruz is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Machida is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
