Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Coronel Santiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rashad Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Coronel Santiago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rashad Evans!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Kavanagh and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santiago lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Evans tries to clinch but Santiago is having none of it.
Evans staying out of range there.
Santiago fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Evans looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Santiago throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Evans shoots in looking for a takedown. Santiago tries to sprawl out of it but Evans keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Santiago manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Evans fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Santiago avoids it really well and circles away.
Evans tries to close the distance and clinch but Santiago swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Santiago lands with a nice body punch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Evans fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Coronel Santiago has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rashad Evans.
Santiago tries to bum rush Evans with a series of wild strikes but Evans uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A punch combination from Santiago misses.
Santiago throws an off balance right hand

and Evans counters by clinching up.
Evans has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Santiago after a bit of a struggle.
Evans wants a takedown but no success here.

Santiago is trying to break the clinch but Evans has him pressed against the cage.
Evans goes for a takedown in the clinch but Santiago prevents it.
Evans is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Evans looks gassed!
Evans is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Santiago gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Evans drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Santiago gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Evans tries for a takedown but Santiago manages to get underhooks.
Santiago scores with a nice hook to the head.
Evans has Santiago pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Santiago manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Santiago escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Santiago lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.


It looks like Rashad Evans has been cut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Evans avoids a punch combination nicely.
Evans's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Santiago connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Evans scrambles back to his feet.
Santiago lands a nice shot that snaps Evans's head back.
Evans looks to clinch

and Santiago counters with a crisp right hand that drops Evans! Santiago lets Evans back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Evans is rocked!
Santiago measures up his opponent and throws a superman punch that connects to the jaw! Down goes Evans! The ref steps in, and that's the ball game folks!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Coronel Santiago!
