PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Herod Otto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zachery Rey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Otto comes into the arena with Anvil of Crom blaring out of the sound system. Zachery Rey is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Herod Otto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zachery Rey!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rey tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Otto manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Both fighters circling a little - Otto finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

A big head kick from Otto and Rey is sent sprawling to the canvas!


It looks like Zachery Rey has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Otto throwing strikes but missing.
Otto wants to control from the top but Rey keeps moving.
Otto throwing strikes from guard but Rey blocks nicely.
Otto postures up in Rey's guard and throws a big left but Rey blocks it.
Otto throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Rey looking for a sweep. Not yet Rey, not yet.
Otto postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Rey keeping moving, preventing Otto from controlling successfully.
Otto stays in close to Rey's body and controls the position.
Otto seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Rey for as long as he can get away with.
Otto pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rey is keeping the position for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Herod Otto just wasn't active enough.

Rey misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Otto has Rey up against the cage in a clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Otto fails to land.

Good anti-grappling being displayed by Otto as Rey tries to tie him up.
Otto lands an elbow that stopped Rey in his tracks for a moment.
Otto avoids a wild elbow strike from Rey.
A head punch on the inside from Rey fails to land.
Rey is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Rey blocks an uppercut.
Otto swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Rey effectively controlling the action here.
Otto tries to land knees in the clinch but Rey avoids the damage to the body.
Rey displaying some good clinch control by pressing Otto up against the cage.
Otto misses with an elbow strike.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rey tries to land a knee to the head but Otto blocks with his arms.

Otto struggles to land a body shot inside as Rey controls his hands.
Otto has had enough of the clinch but Rey keeps him there for the moment.
Otto tries to break the clinch but Rey is controlling the position.
Rey lands a left hand.
Otto avoids the elbow strike from Rey, against the cage.
Rey tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Otto avoids it.
Rey taking a breather.
Otto misses with an elbow strike.
Otto makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Otto lands an elbow that stopped Rey in his tracks for a moment.

Otto breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rey lands a jab.
Otto wants to clinch.
Rey thows a body shot but no joy.

Rey misses with a jab, cross combination.

Otto instigates a clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Otto tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Rey avoids it.
Rey blocks an uppercut.
Rey throws a knee to the head but misses.
Rey pushes off an throws an elbow but Otto leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Rey struggles to land a body shot inside as Otto controls his hands.
Rey tries to stall but Otto uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Nice elbow from Otto.


That has opened up Zachery Rey's cut even more.
Rey misses with an elbow over the top.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Rey misses with a punch on the inside.
Rey tries a body shot but Otto blocks it.
Otto tries to work over Rey's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Rey lands an elbow inside that Otto shrugs off.
Otto tries to throw a body punch but Rey avoids it by throwing Otto back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Herod Otto dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Zachery Rey's cut.
That's time! Otto's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Rey feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Otto's calf.
Rey turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Otto avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Otto tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Rey manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Otto tries to clinch up but Rey circles away and keeps his distance.
Otto misses with a low kick.
Herod Otto is winning the standup battle so far.
Rey swats away the attempt to clinch by Otto.
Rey fails in his attempt to clinch.

Otto drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rey is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Otto throwing strikes but Rey manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Rey is looking to take a break and control but Otto is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rey tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Rey is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Otto's shoulder. That is not cool.
Otto is trying to get back to half guard.
You can see the frustration on Otto's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Otto sneaks back into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rey wants to stand but Otto has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Otto tries to get to full guard but Rey has control of the leg.
Otto is concentrating on defense, preventing Rey from advancing position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Otto moves into full guard.
Otto manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Rey is squirming around, avoiding Otto's attempts to control the action.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rey manages to regain half guard. Good work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rey looks like he's trying to stand up.
Otto trying to control the action but Rey is working from the bottom.
Otto not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Herod Otto overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Otto lands strikes from half guard.
Otto sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Rey defending well though.
Otto throwing shots but Rey is blocking nicely.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rey can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rey is staying active underneath Otto, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Rey wants to control but Otto is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Otto wants to pass to mount but Rey is defending the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Otto not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Otto thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Otto misses with a head shot. Rey uses the momentum to regain guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rey has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Otto off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Otto tries to clinch but Rey moves out of range.
Otto misses with a head kick.
Rey scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Rey closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Rey dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Otto tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Rey manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rey lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
A telegraphed right hand from Rey misses the target.
Otto throws a poor cross that misses
and Rey counters with a stiff right hand.
Rey throws a right hand that Otto ducks under and follows up with a left that Otto also avoids with ease.

Otto misses with a low kick as Rey jumps back.
Rey stuffs the takedown attempt from Otto. Otto gets slowly back to his feet.
Otto slips a jab and a cross from Rey.
Herod Otto is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Otto tries to close the distance and clinch but Rey swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rey closes the distance looking to clinch
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Otto throws a head kick but Rey moves out of range.
No joy there for Rey, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Otto shoots for a takedown but Rey saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Rey ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Otto moves away.
Rey looks to land a left hand but Otto moved out of range nicely.
Rey chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Otto just misses with a punch to the body.
Otto is looking to score with low kicks.
Rey circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rey getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Nice defenses there by Rey.
Rey moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
An inside leg kick lands from Rey.

Rey is looking to clinch but Otto is avoiding it.
Rey throws a right hand that Otto ducks under and follows up with a left that Otto also avoids with ease.
Otto scores with a head kick.
Otto circles away from the clinch attempt
and Otto counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Rey!
Otto misses with a wild body shot.
Otto is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Otto misses with a low kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Otto fails with an attempt to clinch.
Otto throws a leg kick but Rey sees it coming and checks it nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Otto looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Otto throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Otto shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rey as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Herod Otto. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Otto wants to slow Rey down by chopping away at his legs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rey works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close third round but Zachery Rey just about did enough to take it.

Rey doesn't manage to clinch there - Otto circles away.
Otto throws a leg kick but Rey sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Rey misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rey lands a jab to Otto's midsection.
Otto tries to close the distance and clinch but Rey swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Otto walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.


Otto is rocked!
Otto glances at the clock... BAM! Rey nails him with a big right hand! A momentary lapse in concentration sends Otto crashing to the mat! The referee steps in and this one is over! Damn, Otto is out of it, he thinks the ref is his opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 4, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Zachery Rey!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Zachery Rey waved his t-shirt featuring CEC Nutrition Q159 (*$75*)'s logo in front of the cameras.
