Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rico Sanchez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mario Bros! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Kavanagh and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanchez fakes the leg kick and cracks Bros in the body. Sanchez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sanchez showed some decent athleticism there. Bros wants to control but Sanchez is keeping busy and won't allow it. Sanchez landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Sanchez prevents Bros from improving his position. Sanchez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Bros connecting with a few gentle strikes. Sanchez is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bros sees it coming and defends easily. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Sanchez is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bros is just riding it out for now. Sanchez eventually gives up the hold. Bros slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bros utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Sanchez content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Sanchez wants to control from the top but Bros keeps moving. Sanchez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Sanchez wants to pass the guard but Bros is keeping the position. Bros is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Bros is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Bros keeping moving, preventing Sanchez from controlling successfully. Sanchez throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanchez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bros has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sanchez has managed to get both his arms back between Bros's legs - danger averted. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Bros keeping full guard, as Sanchez tries to pass. Sanchez stands up over Bros, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Sanchez slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Sanchez drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Sanchez as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Bros screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Sanchez! Nice submission victory there!
