Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ethelbart Takahashi! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ricardo Gracie! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Takahashi was well out of range. Poor timing from Gracie. Takahashi throws the kick towards the body but Gracie avoids it. Takahashi goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Takahashi moves out of range of the strikes. Gracie throws a looping overhand right but Takahashi ducks down to avoid it. Takahashi throws a quick inside leg kick. Takahashi tries to score with a low kick but Gracie moves his leg out of the way. Takahashi connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Gracie misses with a hook. Gracie looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Gracie is taking a breather. Takahashi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Takahashi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Takahashi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Takahashi is trying to control but can't.
Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Takahashi keeps working. Gracie is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Gracie missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Takahashi wants to improve his position but Gracie is controlling well.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Gracie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gracie has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Takahashi is refusing to be controlled, as Gracie sits in half guard. Takahashi regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Gracie. Takahashi working a defensive guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie passes Takahashi's left leg - he's now in half guard. Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Takahashi is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold. Gracie not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Gracie is keen to just control but Takahashi is a slippery customer. Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Gracie maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Takahashi could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Gracie has cracked it and Takahashi is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Gracie!
