PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cody Grant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronald Chevalier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grant comes to the cage accompanied by The Jesus Lizard - Countless Backs of Sad Losers. Cody Grant could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Ronald Chevalier's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cody Grant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ronald Chevalier!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A kick lands to the mid section there for Grant.
Chevalier shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Grant defends it nicely.
Chevalier dives in and grabs Grant's left leg, looking for a takedown. Grant pushes down on Chevalier's head and hops out.
Good leg kick by Grant there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Grant moves into the clinch.
Chevalier swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Grant lands a nice elbow from the clinch.


It looks like Ronald Chevalier has been cut.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Grant gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Grant blocks an uppercut.
Grant trying to stall but Chevalier improves his position.
Grant presses Chevalier against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Grant scores with a shoulder strike.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Grant pushes Chevalier back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.


That has opened up Ronald Chevalier's cut even more.
A short uppercut from Grant.

Chevalier breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Chevalier fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cody Grant has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ronald Chevalier.
Grant swats away the attempt to clinch by Chevalier.

Chevalier drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Grant can't do much from the bottom here.

Chevalier working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Grant is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Chevalier wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Grant, who protects the arm well.

Chevalier tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Grant taking punishment in the form of punches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Chevalier thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Chevalier wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Grant, who protects the arm well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Grant gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Chevalier is trying to work for a kimura but Grant is defending well.
Grant is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Chevalier is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Grant has managed to free his arm - good work.

Chevalier is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Grant is just riding it out for now. Chevalier eventually gives up the hold.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Chevalier seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Grant wants to improve his position but Chevalier is controlling well.
Chevalier thows a huge punch but Grant dodges it nicely.

Chevalier is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Grant is just riding it out for now. Chevalier eventually gives up the hold.

Chevalier is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cody Grant will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Ronald Chevalier's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Grant throws a leg kick but Chevalier checks it.

Grant clinches.
Chevalier misses with a knee strike.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Grant obliges.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Grant.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Grant here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The cut above Ronald Chevalier's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Chevalier working hard to break the clinch.
Grant scores with a nice hook to the head.


Ronald Chevalier's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chevalier wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Grant has him pressed against the cage.
Grant has Chevalier pressed against the cage.
Grant makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Ronald Chevalier's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Cody Grant!
A relieved looking Cody Grant thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
