Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Luis Chalas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James William! The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! William doesn't manage to clinch there - Chalas circles away.
Chalas throws a leg kick and William counters with a leg kick. Chalas swats away the attempt to clinch by William. William tries to score a power double leg takedown but Chalas sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten William somewhat. Chalas fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging William to the ground. Chalas is now in William's guard. William looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chalas is one step ahead there. William is trying to control the position but Chalas postures up. William really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chalas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Chalas trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Chalas gets to his feet. William looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Chalas misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chalas throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. William was covering up waiting for the punch and Chalas finishes the takedown easily into guard. Chalas is breathing heavily. Chalas gets to his feet - William follows without any prompting. William wants to clinch up but Chalas keeps it at a distance. William clinches. Chalas avoiding damage as William throws knees to the body.
William breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Chalas really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Chalas closes this distance looking for a takedown but William circles away. Chalas keeps the fight on the outside. Chalas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. William moves into the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. William breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
William fails with a takedown attempt. William shoots in looking for a takedown. Chalas tries to sprawl out of it but William keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chalas manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Luis Chalas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James William. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Chalas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Chalas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Chalas throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! William has his hands clasped together but Chalas breaks the hold and William is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Chalas!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Luis Chalas! Luis Chalas decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
