Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Richard Muller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ikuhisa Oyama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard Muller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ikuhisa Oyama!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Muller misses with a series of wild punches.
Oyama lands a nice hook to Muller's body. Muller takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Oyama tries to clinch up but Muller circles away and keeps his distance.

Muller looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Oyama wants to get back to his feet.

Oyama looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Oyama is looking for a sweep. Muller is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Muller wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Muller gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Richard Muller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Oyama rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Muller moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Oyama misses with a takedown

and Muller counters with a nice double leg into side control. Oyama won't be happy with that.
Muller tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Oyama tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Muller wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Oyama wants to get back to his feet but Muller is dominant here and he's now got Oyama's back!
Oyama can't escape the position.

Muller is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Oyama can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Oyama sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Muller is breathing heavily.
Muller prevents Oyama from improving his position.
Muller lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
It looks like Muller is going to stand back up.
Oyama wants to control but Muller is keeping busy.
Muller throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Oyama pushes Muller off looking to stand but Muller dives back in and keeps control.

Oyama is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Muller pulls his head out easily.

Oyama has one foot on Muller's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Muller shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Oyama counters with a takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Oyama wants to lay and pray for a moment but Muller keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Oyama tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Oyama has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Oyama goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Muller has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Oyama but great work by Muller.

Oyama gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Oyama regains full guard. Nicely done.
Oyama tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Muller working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Oyama's head.

Oyama pushes Muller off and gets back to his feet.
Oyama lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Muller fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Oyama, pushing him back against the cage.
Muller tries for a takedown. No joy.
Oyama is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Muller breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Muller digs a good body shot into Oyama's ribs.
Oyama cracks Muller with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Muller lands a jab-cross combination.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Muller misses with a head kick.

Muller fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Oyama, pushing him back against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Muller breaks the clinch.

Muller drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Richard Muller will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Muller tries to clinch but Oyama moves out of range.
Muller fails with an attempt to clinch.
Oyama is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A good leg kick by Muller.
Muller throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Oyama.

Oyama looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Muller strikes from the bottom but Oyama passes into mount!

Oyama stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Oyama throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Muller's waist but Muller gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Oyama off to one side.
Nice body punch from Muller.
Muller wants to clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Oyama scores with a three punch combo!

Muller gets a takedown into half guard.
Oyama slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Oyama is trying to control the position but Muller postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Muller is looking to work some ground and pound but Oyama has wrist control.
Oyama is trying to keep Muller in close.
Muller has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Muller content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Muller distracts Oyama with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.


Oyama is rocked!

Muller landing with the ground and pound.
Oyama is still in real trouble! Can Muller finish him?
Muller works over Oyama with some ground and pound from guard.
Muller postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Oyama covers up, he's hurt! Muller keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Muller and the ref steps in to end the fight! Muller can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Richard Muller!
